ABOUT KETTLER

Stamina training is by far the most important form of exercise for the human body. It improves the effciency of the heart and metabolic system as well as strengthening the muscles under strain. Many types of apparatus are suitable for improving the function of the heart and circulation. Exercise cycles, ergometers, crosstrainers, rowing machines and treadmills involve different types of movement such as cycling, rowing and running. Due to their precise control of physical strain, ergometers are outstanding for this purpose. What exactly does the term ERGOMETER mean?

According to the Brockhaus encyclopaedia, an ergometer (origin Greek) is a device for measuring physical fitness which permits precise control of the amount of strain and ... for measuring the performance of bodily organs and systems (heart, circulation, respiration ...). The Duden dictionary defines it as a medical device for measuring physical fitness.

As a German company with a long tradition, KETTLER also associates the term Ergometer with the most exacting category of the German and European industrial standards for sports equipment used in the home, DINEN 957-1/5, class HA, where the difference between the power input and the power indicated (or calculated) must not exceed ± 5 W for up to 50 W, and ± 10% for over 50W. In spite of their claims, many ergometers available on the market do not fulfil this European standard and some even exceed the tolerances for ordinary home trainers. However, all KETTLER exercising devices with ergometer technology are electronically calibrated and those with computer-controlled induction-brake systems even exceed the high requirements of DIN EN 975-1/5, class HA. KETTLER ergometers are therefore outstanding for their accuracy, both in their control of physical strain and the readings they display. Consequently, they are ideally suited for therapeutic use as well as systematic exercise. Each KETTLER ergometer is supplied with a unique certificate showing the results obtained with a calibrated test shaft, guaranteeing the high metering precision and exact control of physical strain. KETTLER is therefore entitled to use not only the term "ergometer" but also to add the symbol "Tested for Precision."
